Preparing for the Theory & Hazard Perception Test

The Official Theory Test for Car Driviers

The driving theory test has two parts, part one is a multiple choice test of 50 questions and part two is a hazard perception test of 14 video clips in which you will have to identify 125 developing hazards.

The Theory Test

Theory Test BoothsAll driving theory tests are conducted using a touch screen computer. You will have a practice session lasting up to 15 minutes to get used to the system before starting the actual theory test.

You have 45 minutes to answer 50 questions. The pass mark is 43 correct answers. You will receive the test results before you leave the test center.

The Hazard Perception Test

The hazard perception is taken in front of a normal computer using a mouse. The test consists of 14 video clips, which will feature real road scenes and developing hazards of various types such as vehicles and pedestrians. You will be asked to indicate as soon as you see a hazard developing which may result in the driver taking some action, such as changing speed or direction. The sooner a response is made the higher the score. There are a total of 15 scoreable hazards in the test. Thirteen clips will contain one scoreable hazard and one clip will contain two scoreable hazards.
